Among people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, researchers recognize familial forms of the disease and sporadic cases. This shifting appreciation of inherited risk, researchers say, is due to a better understanding of the role of a fourth gene that carries the blueprints to make a lipid-carrying protein called apolipoprotein E, known as APOE. One known as APOE2 is thought to be protective against the development of Alzheimer’s disease. They also compared people with two copies of APOE4 to people with other inherited forms of the disease — early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer’s disease (ADAD) and Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer’s disease (DSAD). Gene testing isn’t currently recommendedIt is also likely to change how people who carry the APOE4 gene are diagnosed and treated.

I wanted to set foot on the European and Asian side of Istanbul during a recent visit with my kids. A $1 commuter ferry was the cheapest option for us to go from the European side to the Asian side. The ride was only 20 minutes each way, and I was surprised not to see more tourists on the ferry. Plus, although they technically go through Asia, none of the cruises I found let passengers disembark in Asia. Instead of sitting inside, we made our way to the second level of the ferry and took seats on the rooftop deck.

But the sea around Kinmen has again turned tense after two Chinese men onboard a speedboat died in the area last month while trying to flee a Taiwanese Coast Guard vessel.

In early February, the deadliest South American wildfires in a century swept through Valparaiso, Chile, killing more than a hundred people. (Reuters) - A Ukrainian sea drone attack on Russia's Crimean bridge in July had "overturned" naval operations and forced Moscow to resort to ferries to move weaponry, the head of Ukraine's main intelligence agency said in a video broadcast on Friday. "We have practically overturned the philosophy of naval operations," Maliuk said in the first of a series of televised documentaries entitled "SBU, the Special Operations of Victory."
